"Merry Christmas" was my first home recording project.  I began
working on it during my Thanksgiving holiday vacation from work in
2003.  I started creating chord charts for the songs on Monday,
November 24 and didn't finish the project until Saturday the 29th.

This project was a labor of love and I have to give credit to my
friend Mike Grigsby for inspiring me to play Christmas music with a
passion.  I believe it was in 1992 that Mike called me and asked me
to be a part of a Christmas musical he was planning.  Mike said that
anything worth doing was worth doing "big."  And big it was!  The
first "Home Town Christmas" show at Paris Junior College involved
a cast of around 100 people and the annual show became a tradition
for several years.    Most of the music was original Christmas songs
written by Mike with a lot of traditional Christmas music mixed in.
There was also comedy, poetry, dancing and... pickin'.  That's where
I came in!  Most of the instrumentals on this CD were performed
during one or more of the Home Town Christmas shows.  Mike
asked me and the band to do a segment of the show he called
"Holiday Pickin."  (Guess I should have used that as the name for
this CD!)  One of the medleys we played was composed of "Here
Comes Santa Claus" and "Joy To The World."  I performed this as
two separate instrumentals on the CD, but you missed it if you didn't
get to hear Kevin Hudgens (drums) and Roger Stripland (bass)
perform it with me live during a Home Town Christmas show.

So, thanks to Mike for his inspiration and also to my wife Debbie for
her patience during those Thanksgiving holidays while I hammered
this out.  There were a lot of things going on in our home during the
holidays and it sure looked like a mess in the room I used for a
studio!

I hope you enjoy the music, and most of all I hope you have a
wonderful Christmas season this year!  Remember...

Jesus is the reason for the season!
