This IS a short CD, but I just didn't have that much music already recorded
when I set out to make this for a friend. Songs 1 through 5, and 8 were
recorded on my Tascam Porta-05 4-track recorder in 1992. I was mainly
experimenting to learn how to operate this portable home recorder. I
originally put these and several other songs on a cassette tape that I called
"Dusty and Rusty." How did I come up with a name like that? Because,
after listening to what I had done, I really felt like the banjo was "dusty" and
my fingers were pretty "rusty!" I also played rhythm guitar, upright and
electric bass on the project. When that friend asked me about previously
recorded music, this Dusty and Rusty tape was all I could find. I set out to
transfer some of the tracks to my computer and put them on CD. Needless to
say, I could only find about five pieces that I thought might be worth
listening to. I then began to search for something else to add to the
collection. That's when I ran across some more experimentation!
A couple of years ago my sister gave me the Cakewalk home studio software
for my computer. While learning to use this new toy, I grabbed my dobro
and laid down 4 different tracks that comprise "Panhandle Rag." I just
threw this one on the CD for the fun of it. Later I recorded "I Saw The
Light" with the Cakewalk software and put it on the CD too.
"I Love You Because" was done on the Tascam 4-track recorder in 1992
also. (In case you didn't know, the Pedal Steel Guitar is my other favorite
instrument.) This instrumental was about the only thing else I could find to
add to the CD.
